Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty called out a racist incident as she faced a tough time at an Australian airport recently. Taking to Instagram, the actress who is very active on social media narrated an incident that can serve as an eye-opener for many.
She wrote a lengthy post in which detailed her experience with an Australian airline crew as she got ready to board a flight. She wrote: “Subject: #Quantas airways @qantas This should get your attention!” as she wrote about “brown people” and how she will not tolerate being a pushover. She wrote: “WE” are NOT #pushovers and they MUST know that being #callous and #Rude will NOT BE TOLERATED.
The post accompanies a photo of Shilpa at the airport with the ‘supposed bag’.
This is the full post:
This happened as she was travelling from Sydney to Melbourne by Quantas Airways, when an airline staff misbehaved with her and gave her a tough time as she is brown-skinned. An airline staffer objected on her half-empty bag and asked it to be checked into “oversized luggage”. Even though the bag was not overweight, she still went to the counter, only to be returned to the previous one.
As all of this kept happening, Shilpa wrote: “We had no time to waste so we ran to the oversized baggage counter and requested her to put the bag through which she did after I told her that #Rude #Mel (that’s her name) had issues !!!.... to which another colleague joined in and reiterated my duffle wasn’t oversized and could’ve easily been checked in.”
She further wrote: “The point is .. This piece is only for #quantas airlines to know and take cognisance .. that their staff must be taught to be helpful and TONE can’t change with preference to #COLOUR.”
Shilpa recently debuted her web series ‘Hear Me Love Me’ in which she will interestingly play the role of a cupid. This will be her first step in the world of web series. The show will see women aged between 21 and 32 being set up on multiple blind dates in a day. They will be asked about what they seek in a potential partner. What will make the show interesting is that the woman participant will not be allowed to leave the room where she will meet her potential partners and she will not be able to see the face of the said individual either.
