Shashi Tharoor wins 2019 Sahitya Akademi Award for his book 'An Era Of Darkness'

Politician, Congress party member and author Shashi Tharoor has won the 2019 Sahitya Akademi Award for his book 'An Era Of Darkness: The British Empire In India' which had released in 2016. 

On Wednesday, Sahitya Akademi shared a press release announcing its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages which has Tharoor's name as one of the winners in the list. He won in the creative non-fiction category.

Tharoor's book talks about the effect of British rule in India and how they exploited the country for years. 

Tharoor graduated from St. Stephen's College in Delhi in 1975. In 1978, he completed his doctorate in International Relations and Affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He has served as the UN Under Secretary General for Communications and Public Information in the past and is a former Minister of State for External Affairs. 

Tharoor is very popular on Twitter where he is known for is impeccable hold on the English language. He has also authored other books like 'Why I Am A Hindu', 'Paradoxical Prime Minister' and 'Inglorious Empire'.
