Mumbai Police doubt Govinda’s version of gunshot injury incident, says report

The Mumbai Police are currently investigating the incident involving actor Govinda, who reportedly shot himself accidentally with his revolver. However, authorities are sceptical of the actor's account of the event. The Crime Branch has initiated a separate inquiry into the matter, with officials meeting Govinda at the hospital on Wednesday to discuss the incident.

According to reports, the police have expressed doubts about Govinda's version of events. A crime branch team, led by senior police inspector Daya Nayak, visited the hospital on Tuesday to speak with the actor. Govinda maintains that the gun fell and accidentally discharged, resulting in a leg injury. He claims he was alone at his residence when the incident occurred early Tuesday morning.

Sources cited by News 18 suggest that while the police have ruled out foul play, they are not entirely convinced by Govinda's account. There is a possibility that they may record his statement again. As of now, no formal complainthasbeen filed regarding the incident.

Govinda's explanation involves a licensed Webley revolver, which he claims misfired. The bullet reportedly struck him near his left knee. A police official stated that the revolver, described as an old model, was not locked at the time of the incident. Following the event, Govinda issued a statement to reassure his fans about his condition.

The actor, who was a prominent figure in Bollywood during the 1990s, has appeared in over 165 films in his four-decade career. Recently, Govinda re-entered the political arena by joining the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in March, just before the Lok Sabha elections. This also marks his return to politics after nearly two decades, following his previous stint as a Congress MP from 2004 to 2008, while representing the Mumbai North constituency.
