Meet the new 'Charlie's Angels', Elizabeth Banks to direct film

'Charlie's Angels'

Story highlights

Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska and Kristen Stewart will play the next generation of Charlie's Angels.

It’s close to two decades now when Charlie’s Angels paved the way for women-led action roles and now with a fresh cast, makers announce to reboot the good old film. The new crime adventure will be helmed by Elizabeth Banks who will also take on the role of Bosley, the face of the epic detective agency called Charlie Townsend.

Naomi Scott, who people will recognise as Princess Jasmine in Disney's upcoming Aladdin remake will be one of the three angels. She will be joined with Ella Balinska and Kristen Stewart.

The reboot takes from the detective agency premise of the original 1976-1981 TV series and films that came out in 2000 and 2003. Cut to 2018 and Townsend Agency is now a worldwide security and intelligence service that has teams around the world. The movie will focus on one of those teams and the "next generation of Angels."

Elizabeth talking of the original said, "Charlie's Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the '70s. This film honours the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn't be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world."

Sony has set the new Charlie’s Angels for a release on September 27, 2019.
