Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly has been booked on charges of rape. The actor has been accused by a 40-year-old woman who has alleged that he assaulted her over a year ago in Dubai, said the police.

According to reports, an FIR on the charges of rape has been registered. Pauly is among the six accused, which also includes a woman. The first accused is a woman, and Nivin is the sixth accused, an officer told PTI.

Nivin Pauly is among the many actors and directors who are facing allegations of sexual harassment or rape by female actors following the publication of the Justice K Hema Committee report.

The actor has, however, denied the allegations.

Nivin Pauly responds to allegations

Nivin responded to the allegation via an Instagram post on Tuesday evening and wrote, “I have come across a false news report accusing me of abusing a girl. Please know that this is entirely untrue. I am determined to go to any extent to prove these allegations are baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light. Thank you for your concern. The rest will be handled legally.”

More details about the Hema Committee report

The committee was constituted by the Kerala government after the 2017 actress assault case and its report revealing instances of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam cinema industry.

Following the allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation cropping up against several actors and directors, the state government on August 25 announced the establishment of a seven-member special investigation team to probe the cases.

Earlier this month, a redacted version of the Justice Hema Committee report on harassment faced by women in the Malayalam cinema industry was made public. It contains shocking accounts alleging harassment, exploitation, and ill-treatment of women professionals. The 235-page report, published after redacting the names of witnesses and the accused, notes that the Malayalam film industry is controlled by about 10 to 15 male producers, directors, and actors who dominate and exert control over the industry.

The report of the three-member panel headed by a former judge of the Kerala High Court and set up by the state government in 2017, was submitted to the CM PinarayiVijayan-led Kerala government in December 2019 and made public only this month.
