Karan Johar's Dharma Production's godown gutted by fire, several film artifacts destroyed

A massive fire broke out at the godown of Dharma Productions in the wee hours of Tuesday in Mumbai's Goregaon East area. Dharma Production is one of the leading production houses of Bollywood and is headed by Karan Johar and was established in the 1980s.

According to a report in DNA, the fire started at 2:30 am and it took 12 fire engines to douse it. "Investigation is underway to identify the source of the fire," Senior police inspector, Jyotsna Rasam was quoted as saying. "We have disconnected their electric and water supply. Action will be taken if lapses are found," added chief fire officer PS Rahangdale.

According to reports, the fire spread quickly through the godown. A fire fighter also got injured during the accident and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared stable.

While the actual damage is not known yet but reports indicate that the godown housed memorabilia and artifacts from old Dharma films and all are likely to have gotten destroyed.

The banner released two major films in 2019 - 'Kesari' and 'Kalank'. While the Akshay Kumar starrer received positive reviews from critics and audience alike and went on to earn over Rs 200 crore worldwide, multi-starrer Kalank failed at the box office.

Dharma Productions' next release will be Punit Malhotra's directorial 'Student of the Year 2', starring Tiger Shroff and debutantes Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday.
