Matrix 5 in the works! Director Drew Goddard to helm, no confirmation on Keanu Reeves' return

It's time for another Matrix movie! Just after the first movie of the much-acclaimed sci-fi franchise The Matrix celebrated its 25th anniversary, the makers have confirmed that another new instalment of the franchise is in the works.
On Thursday (March 4), Warner Bros announced that the new instalment of the movie is going to be helmed and written by Drew Goddard.
Goddard, who now has the responsibility to make the fifthmovie of the Cyberpunch media franchise a hit, has an impressive career. He has earned an Oscar nomination for best-adapted screenplay for The Martian.

He started his career by writing TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias and Lost beforeshiftingto screenwriting and then directing. He's also the creator of Marvel’s acclaimed series Daredevil on Netflix.
Goddard'sdirecting credits include The Good Place, Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods and World War Z.

This will be the first movie in the Keanu Reeves led-franchise that will not be helmed by creators Lana and Lilly Wachowski, who have directed the first four parts of the franchise.
Although the Wachowskis are not involved directly in the series, Lana Wachowski will be the executive producer of the next Matrix movie.

The plot details of the forthcoming movie have been kept under wraps. But, in a statement, the makers have said that Goddard has approached them with a very unique idea.
“Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” said Warner Bros. Motion Pictures president of the production Jesse Ehrman.
However, there is no confirmation whetherKeanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving Carrie Anne-Moss, and Jada Pinkett-Smith will reprise their roles.

The dystopian worldwas introduced 25 years ago when the first movie,The Matrix was released. Starring Keanu Reeves as Neo, the movie revolves around a world where humans are unknowingly controlled by machines.
Released on March 31, 1999, the first sci-fi movie garnered applause from theaudience and criticsfor its commendable cinematography, action scenes, and visual effects. It was a huge box office hit, earning $460 million.
After the success of the first movie, two sequels of the movie, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, were released back-to-back in 2003. The most recent instalment The Matrix Resurrections, was released on December 22, 2021. The fourth instalment of the movie starredReeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, and Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
