Melanie Brown, a former member of the hugely popular girl-band Spice Girl, has checked into a rehab for alcohol and sex addiction.
Popularly known as Mel B, the singer has opened up to a leading daily about her addiction with alcohol and stated how she realised she needed help while she worked on an autobiography.
“It has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life,” she said.
The singer said she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, and shared a link on Twitter to a US government site explaining the condition. She said that the course of treatment she was receiving was “really helping me. I am fully aware I am at a crisis point.” The singer had admitted that she had been using alcohol to “numb her pain" following her divorce with Stephan Belafonte.
The singer separated from Belafonte in 2016 after being married to him for almost a decade. Following their split, Brown took out a temporary restraining order against him and accused him of physical, verbal and psychological abuse. A case domestic violence was settled out of court in 2017 and Brown had admitted that the legal battle had left her "financially battered”.
The singer said she was entering rehab to become “a better version of myself for my kids (she has three), for my family and for all the people who have supported me in my life”.
