Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!,one of the most iconic Hindi movies, turns 30 today (Aug 5). Celebrating this milestone, here we have brought a interesting instance from the set that you might not know.

Featuring Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Behl, Renuka Shahane, and Anupam Kher, in key roles, the timeless classic is cherished for its dialogues, songs, and wedding sequences among many other things. While we often focus on the movie's glamorous aspects, did you know that actor Anupam Kher suffered a paralysis attack? Despite this, he went on to shoot the famous 'antakshari' sequence in the film.

Kher, who plays Madhuri and Renuka Shahane’s father and is lovingly known as ‘Samdhi ji’ in the movie, made the big revelation while appearing on a popular Indian news channel show, Aap Ki Adalat.

Recalling the whole instance and why he decided to shoot, Kher shared that he was at Anil Kapoor's home when his wife Sunita Kapoor noticed that Kher's eye was not blinking.

Next morning, Kher's condition worsened when he noticed that water was slipping through his mouth when he was brushing teeth. He quickly rushed to director Yash Chopra, who advised him to go to the doctor and take around a months-long break.

“He [Yash Chopra] told me to take the medicines as I was in very bad shape,” Kher recalled.

Kher suffered the attack on the same day when the 'antakshri' scene was scheduled to be shot. And, despite taking the rest, the actor chose to shoot the scene.

Recalling what he was thinking when returning from his doctor’s appointment, he shared, “If I go home today and take rest for two months, I will stay in fear my entire life. For years to come, I will think that leaving work is the only solution when ill’,” he shared.

With his paralysed face, he headed to Filmistan Studio. Initially, everyone on the set like Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan thought that he was making up the faces. However, he told the truth to the entire team and assured them that he could shoot.

“For a long time, Madhuri and Salman thought I was enacting a comic scene. After a while, I gathered everyone I told them that my left face was paralyzed, but I was willing to shoot. If you look at the scene closely, you’ll notice that there was close-up shot and they changed the sequence and gave me Dharmendra’s Sholay sequence where I had to recreate his iconic drunk scene and call out “Mausi ji” with a twisted face. If you have to test how strong you are, you have to face everything that scares you,” he recalled, via Indian Express.

Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the musical romance was a huge hit and is considered a game-changer for the Indian film industry.
