Dhanush and Nayanthara—the bonafide superstars of Tamil cinema—had an awkward moment on Friday (Nov 22) at a wedding, days after their cold war became public. The two attended Tamil producer Aakash Baskaran's wedding on Friday, and a photo shows them seated on the same row—but on different couches—purposely avoiding any kind of eye contact.
Though not an all-out war, an open letter by Nayanthara directed towards Dhanush has led to an intense cold war. The actress took to Instagram to share a long open letter and called Dhanush 'vile' among other things for slapping a copyright case on Nayanthara for using some footage in her new documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. The actress needed some footage from her previous films for the documentary, but owing to copyright strikes by Dhanush (the producer of those films) couldn't. As a result, the release of the documentary was delayed.
As the two attended Friday's event and avoided eye contact or any other interaction, a viral picture of the two has left the internet in splits.
While hilarious gifs have flooded social media in reaction to the photo, some internet users, in particular, believe that the organisers intentionally seated Dhanush and Nayanthara in the same row.
Comments expressing this read: "Lmao so strategically placed and seated! The organisers knew what they were doing ", "The real hero is the person who put them next to each other" and "Should give a raise to the one in charge of the seating".
Other hilarious comments on the awkward moment read: "waah!! multiverse of madness.. its hilarious to see them sit almost next to each other lmaooo", "Who sat them so close like that LMAOimagine they started fighting in person" and "I can see the invisible line between them that no birds or animals cross ".
For Nayanthara's documentary, the actress needed crucial footage from the 2015 film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The reason? The sets of the Dhanush production is where Nayanthara met her husband, Tamil director Vignesh Shivan. Hence the footage from the film, the making and songs, would have added a special touch to the documentary.
After reportedly failing to obtain a no-objection certificate from Dhanush for twoyears, she proceeded with sticking to just a three-second clip from the sets of the movie, filmed on a personal device. In response, Dhanush has reportedly slapped Nayanthara with a ₹10 crore (Rs 100 million) legal feud citing copyright claims.
Nayanthara's documentary is currently streaming on Netflix.
