British police have a lot to thank David Schwimmer, hit TV show ‘Friends’ star who played popular character, Ross.
In a turn of events, the British police nabbed the local thief who stole a crate of beer cans as he was in the act and was caught on a CCTV camera of the local shop.
The British police had asked the public to identify a man who allegedly stole a crate of beer from a shop. Now that he has been caught, they tweeted: "Following the appeal we posted looking for a man who resembles a well-known actor, we now have an update," police in Blackpool in northwest England tweeted.
"Thanks to our colleagues @MetPoliceUK, a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall last night on suspicion of theft. Thank you for the support, especially @DavidSchwimmer!"
The internet went into a flurry when the CCTV footage was spotted by some Londoners who found an uncanny resemblance between the thief and the popular actor. David Schwimmer then posted a spoof video, imitating the act, in order to convince the police that he was in New York when the act in London happened.
He posted a video and captioned it: "Officers, I swear it wasn't me," he quipped. "As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation."
The New York police too supported this and wrote: "We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We're so sorry it has to be this way."
