Bollywood welcomed the landmark judgement with open arms
It is truly a historic day for India as the Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality in a landmark judgement.As the country erupted into celebrations, Bollywood celebrities took to social media to hail the landmark judgement.
Karan Johar was one of the first few celebrities to tweet about the judgement. The filmmaker put up a rainbow flag that had 'Finally' written on it. "Historical judgment!!!! So proud today! Decriminalising homosexuality and abolishing #Section377 is a huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights! The country gets its oxygen back!" Johar captioned the image.
Other celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Neha Dhupia, Vicky Kaushal shared celebratory posts on social media lauding the judgement.
Manoj Bajpayee, who played a gay professor in Hansal Mehta's pathbreaking film 'Aligarh' stated how Professor Siraswould be ' ahappy man up there'. Aligarh was based on Professor Siras life who was fired from his job at Aligarh University for being homosexual.
The order was passed — unanimously — by a five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, and comprising Justices RF Nariman, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra.
