Vihaan Samat Interview: A Guide To Getting To Date Bollywood's Newest Cute Boy

It’s been a barrage of compliments and positive feedback for Vihaan Samat who recently featured in Netflix’s CTRL, a cyber-thriller that takes a unique look at a fallen-apart relationship in the times of Artificial Intelligence.Vihaan stars alongside Ananya Panday in the film after a successful outing in Call Me Bae.

Here are the edited excerpts of this chat:

Q: Now that you have done two back-to-back projects with Ananya, what is the vibeon set? Are you two buddies?

A: I would say we're friends but are we like buddies? Like, are we texting every day and stuff? I know we're not. We share a common group chat for Call Me Bae. It's called Bewakoof cast or Bewakoofs. It has the most random updates on it. There's random memes being sent, there's sometimes just a string of like 20 GIFs that make no sense. We're in touch in that way but we do not text every day and update each other about our lives as best friends do.

Q: In CTRL, because you two play an influencer couple, your lives are on the internet. Are you like that in real life too? Would you put your relationship out there?

A: No, I anyway struggle to put out a lot of stuff on social media. I have to push myself to post. I've been in a phase in life where I've forgotten about even posting for a month. I am however trying to get better at it and stay connected to my audience. Thankfully, there are no crazy pressures for me to be there on social media. I am very happy with this. I am never like, “I didn't post today, so I'll have to post today”. It's like, “I haven't posted in a week. Okay, let's do it. There will be something to show. If not, it's okay”.

Thankfully I am not too crazy about social media. I think I have some sort of balance, I might be wrong but I think I do.

Q: You might not be posting too much but do you enjoy scrolling?

A: I am big on scrolling. I send memes to my friends. I have about eight or so groups where I send memes. I curate which group I send which meme to. Then I open each group depending on how many messages there are to be read or what kind of messages there are. I waste a lot of time on memes.

Q: From Mismatched to Call Me Bae and now CTRL, we have seen you dabble with romantic relations on screen. In real life, what are some big dos and don’ts for you in a relationship?

A: Trust, honesty, clear communication, respect for your partner – these are the basics. If these aren’t there, then I see major red flags. I think I would assume it's very important to value mutual honesty, communication and trust. Ifyou operate from a genuine place of love, then it's easier to make changes.

Other stuff you can figure out if you understand where the person is coming from, like when they have more than three drinks on the first date, it's a red flag they say. Okay, but what is the context? Like did you decide you're going to a bar? Then there's like, What is it when they don't text back for five hours? But my answer is, what were they doing? Didthey say they won't text back for five hours? Maybe they were busy?

I read a lot of these random rules, but I feel like, rules for who? Are these rules for all 7 billion of us? Each connection is different, each relationship is different.

Q: Vihaan, what’s your idea of a perfect date?

A: Something not too crazy. I don’t want to take you skydiving on the first date. I don't know you. Why are we going skydiving? Why are we placing such big trust in a stranger? I think a nice perfect first date would not even be a movie. I think you need someplace where you can talk. Maybe a nice lunch or a nice dinner at a restaurant. Then maybe you go see some comedy show after or like a band. Then you can take a walk back home or just sit around and talk. I think you basically need to talk, however, that talking happens.

Talking is very important on the first date so that you understand who you're dealing with. This is a stranger and you want to obviously fall for the stranger but you cannot do that unless you talk. The problem is that many first dates do not make it conducive to talking.

So Netflix and chill or partying till 4 am?
A: Depends on the phase of my life but I would say Netflix and chill or more like Netflix and sleep.

Millions of dollars with no work or lots of projects?
A: Lots of work

Music or Dance, if not an actor?
A: I think the singer went before the dancer in my list of things but I remember I used to dance to “Bidi Jalele” as a five-year-old and all of my friends and family would cheer me on. Unfortunately, I have forgotten all the steps.

Social media fame or national awards?
A: National awards.

Beach or Mountains?
A: Both

Solitude on a private island or mansionin Beverly Hills?
A: I get bored after a while. I think solitude after I'm 60. Right now I just want a Beverly Hills mansion. I think it'd be fun. Then you can sell the mansion and get an island when you need it.
