On Ajay Devgn's birthday, watch the final trailer of Maidaan

Ajay Devgn's Maidaan is just days away from theatrical release and the makers unveiled the film's final trailer on Tuesday to mark the actor's 55th birthday. Devgn will be seen playing a football coach who resurrects the Indian team for the Olympics in the early 1950s.

The final trailer builds on the first one, released a couple of weeks ago, and begins with Priyamani's character giving a pep talk to her husband Syed Abdul Rahim, played by Ajay. She lauds him for believing that India can achieve football glory at the Olympics but asks when.

The trailer also shows Ajay picking underdogs from across the country to build a team much to the discomfort of the government officials and bureaucratGajraj Rao.

The odds are against Ajay and his team who not only have to face formidable competition inside the stadium, but also the boos of the stadium crowd and of the mob protesting outside, demanding India to “go back.”

About Maidaan

The film is based on the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, a former football coach and manager of the Indian football team. He is regarded as the architect of modern Indian football.

Talking about the film and the character of Syed Abdul Rahim, Ajay said in a statement, “Apart from being a great story, I never knew that something like that had happened in our country and football had reached its peak and only because of, I can't say one man, but one man and these players who changed the course of football in the ‘50s and ’60s. I was shocked this would have happened and there is a person like him and that was the first thing that this story needs to be told.”

Maidaan also features Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh and rapper Chaitanya Sharma.It has been helmed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla.
