Taylor Swift

Another day, another record for Taylor Swift. After a massively successful entry into every bestselling and most streamed list, Taylor Swift’s latest album The Tortured Poets Department has debuted to 2.61 million units, the highest of any album since Adele’s record-breaking 2015 release, 25.

Thanking her fans and sharing her gratitude, Taylor Swift expressed that she was overwhelmed with all the love and was numb at the response by her fans. She wrote on Instagram, “My mind is blown,” along with a carousel of polaroids from the recording process.

She added, “I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album. Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed.”

Also, Billboard recently reported that Taylor Swift’s latest studio album has debuted at number 1. This makes Taylor’s Tortured Poetsthe 14th chart-topping album ofher career. Notably, this feat positions her in a tie with rapper Jay-Z for the most No.1s among solo artists in history.

The Tortured Poets Department released in April

The Tortured Poets Department released on April 19 and launched with 2.61 million equivalent album units in the US, with vinyl sales representing 859,000 of that number. The record hit 1.9 million total traditional album sales. These sale numbers are far ahead of Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter (the second-most sold) with 228,000.

Now that her album is out and is making waves across categories in the music world, Taylor will resume her Eras Tour next month. She had paused concerts to reveal the new album to the world. Her first show since Tortured Poets will be in Paris on May 9.

Among other accolades, Tortured Poets became Spotify‘s most-streamed album in a single week, passing 1 billion streams only five days after its release. On the day of its release, it became the first album in Spotify history to notch more than 300 million streams in a single day. Swift also holds the record as the most-streamed artist in a single day, breaking her previous record for 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
