T20 World Cup 2024: Australia continue flawless run with comfortable win over England in Barbados
Australia continued their flawless run in the T20 World Cup in the early hours of Sunday (June 9) morning as they beat defending champions England by 36 runs in Barbados. The win which now sees Australia go to top of Group B also leaves England in a nasty situation, with two must-win games against Namibia and Oman in hand. The win was a collective effort by the Australian players as they target their second T20 World Cup in three years.
Australia continue flawless show
Needing 202 runs to register their first win of the T20 World Cup, England made a bright start to their innings with Phillip Salt (37) and skipper Jos Buttler (42). They put together 73 runs for the opening wicket, but after their dismissal, England lost momentum and were restricted to 165/6 in their 20 overs. Moeen Ali (25), Harry Brook (20) and Liam Livingstone (15) showed resilience but could not convert starts into big innings as the Aussies manufactured their comfortable win.
Adam Zampa was the Player of the Match having ended with figures of 28/2 in his fours overs while skipper ODI skipper Pat Cummins also scalped two.

What happened in Australia’s innings?
Asked to bat first, the pair of David Warner (39) and Travis Head (34) stitched a partnership of 70 runs for the opening wicket. However, both the batters departed in quick succession leaving Glenn Maxwell (28) and Marsh in the middle. Both the batters got starts and steered the Aussies towards a big total, but both were scalped in no time.
Marcus Stoinis (30), Tim David (11) and Matthew Wade (17) would then help Australia get to 201/7 in the 20 overs. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for England as he ended figures of 44/2 in his four overs. There were wickets for Mooen Ali, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid and Livingstone as England could not stop the Aussies from reaching 200.
Australia will next take on Namibia on Wednesday (June 12) where they can book their place in the Super Eight with a win before closing the group stage campaign against Scotland on Saturday (June 16). England on the other hand face Oman on Friday (June 14) before switching their attention to Namibia on next Saturday.
