IPL 2025 Mega Auction: No Jofra Archer, Cameron Green but James Anderson gets green light

The IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled to get underway in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is a two-day affair (November 24 and 25). IPL announced the final list of players (574) slated to go under the hammer, including 366 Indians and 208 overseas, with the notable absentees being England ace seamer Jofra Archer and Australia all-rounder Cameron Green; however, retired Test great James Anderson is registered in the INR 1.25 crore-bracket.

While Archer last played in IPL 2020 for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Green was part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad last season, traded from Mumbai Indians for INR 17,50,00,000 ahead of the December auction. That move, however, led to Hardik Pandya returning to Mumbai (from Gujarat Titans), replacing Rohit Sharma as their new captain.

The lanky Australian was one of Mumbai’s prolific run-scorers in his maiden season, hitting 452 in 16 contested matches, including his best score of 100* against SunRisers Hyderabad. Next season for the RCB, his form dipped, scoring a mere 255 runs from 13 outings, with his best being 46.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Australian summer this year, Green underwent surgery on the lower spine, missing all action, including the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. Though he was scheduled to return in time for the Champions Trophy in February-March next year, the IPL decided against putting his name in the final list, among which all ten teams will pick the players.

On the other hand, Anderson, who announced his international retirement following the first Test against West Indies at the Lord’s this year, is among the 208 foreign players listed for the IPL auction. Having last played an international T20I 15 years ago in 2009, Anderson registered his name for an IPL auction for the first time since the tournament’s inception.

All ten teams have announced their retention list before the IPL 2025 mega auction. While two teams – Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan, have retained six players each, Punjab Kings have secured the services of only two players, the least.

As many as 1574 players listed their names, a number cut down to 574, of which 330 are uncapped players. The list also includes three from Associate teams – Ali Khan from the USA, Unmukt Chand (former U-19 India captain) and Brandon McMullen.

The IPL 2025 mega auction will get underway at 1:00 pm(local time) (3:30 PM IST) on Sunday (Nov24).
