IPL 2024: WATCH | Andre Russell covers ears as CSK fans welcome Dhoni with 125-decibel-loud cheers

MS Dhoni's last dance in front of Chepauk?

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell was seen covering his ears due to the noise made by fans at Chepauk during Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star MS Dhoni's entry. The incident happened during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the two sides on April 8. This was the first time Dhoni came out to bat in his team's home ground.

Chasing a paltry 138, CSK were in command when CSK batter Shivam Dube was dismissed by KKR's Vaibhav Arora three short of the target. Dhoni then came on the field, in the 17th over, and the fans present in the stadium made themselves heard loud and clear.

CSK soon won the game and Dhoni stayed unbeaten on 1 off three balls. This was CSK's third win overall in the ongoing season and all of them have come at home.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja's 3/18 in four overs restricted KKR to just 137/9 in 20 overs despite having an above-par powerplay. Chasing the total, CSK were never in trouble as they reached the target in 17.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. For Chennai, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad eventually hit form and top-scored with an unbeaten 67 off 58 balls.

After the match, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer agreed to misreading the pitch which proved to be costly in the end.

"I personally feel we fell short in terms of assessing the wicket," Iyer said after the loss. The KKR skipper also said that CSK knew the conditions of their home ground well and they bowled exactly according to the plan.

This was KKR's first loss of the season after winning three games on the trot.
