IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar GRILLS Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal on scoring hundred vs MI | Here's why

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar praised the hundred scored by Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians on April 22 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, but with a caveat. Gavaskar, who himself hails from Mumbai just like Jaiswal, asked the young batter why he has to score a hundred against MI and not other teams.

"This is your second century against the Mumbai Indians. And you're a Mumbai boy. What is it that is making you score these hundreds against them? Can't you score these hundreds against others?" Gavaskar asked Jaiswal after the match.

The young Rajasthan batter replied: "Nothing. It's just that I think am trying to do what I do well. Some days are tough, some days are good. And I was just playing. That's all. I didn't have anything in my mind."

Thanks to the hundred, Jaiswal's first of the season, RR chased the target of 180 with utmost ease with nine wickets in hand. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 104 off just 60 balls.

The season has been extremely good for Royals who are at the top of the points table with just one loss and seven wins in eight games. All of their batters, namely Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag and now Jaiswal have been among the runs.

They have been complemented well by their bowlers as well, especially Yuzvendra Chahal, who leads the wicket-taking chart or Purple Cap leaderboard this season. Chahal also became the first bowler in IPL to reach the mark of 200 wickets with 1/48 in four overs against MI.

As for Mumbai, the season has been rather disappointing, as they slumped to their fifth defeat of the season in eight games. MI (six points) along with Delhi Capitals (six points), Punjab Kings (four points), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (two points) are at the bottom of the 10-team points table.
