BCCI's birthday message to Kumble: 'Former bowler' tweet offends fans

India's powerful cricket board hastily deleted a birthday message for record Test wicket-taker Anil Kumble Tuesday
The Board of Control for Cricket in India was slammed by fans of Indian cricketer Anil Kumble over a birthday message that described former ace spinner Anil Kumble simply a "former bowler".
Irate fans took offence took offence and said the former Test wicket-taker achievements being underplayed.
The BCCI then deleted the birthday message and hastily spinned a new one, calling Kumble a "former captain" and "legend".
The damage was, however, done.
Kumble quit as national coach in June, describing his relationship with captain Virat Kohli as"untenable".BCCI officials reportedly tried to salvage ties between Kumble and Kohli, but that the relationship was beyond repair.
Kumble, who played for India for 17 years, has never commented publicly on the matter.
Ravi Shastri was since taken over as coach of the Indian side.
Kumble, or 'Jumbo' as he was fondly known in the Indian teamremains India's highest Test wicket-taker with his 619 scalps in 132 matches.
