Former England captain Eoin Morgan denies rumours of taking over as white-ball coach
Former England captain Eoin Morgan has denied rumours of him getting the coaching role for the national side after he spoke out on the current situation. Morgan, England’s captain when they won their only ODI World Cup in 2019, has been linked with the national team job for the limited-overs format. However, those rumours were quickly rested when Morgan was commentating during The Hundred on Tuesday (July 24).

"This news is actually news to me," Morgan said while commentating.
"It's obviously not nice when a coach comes under fire and there is a lot of speculation about his future, but only time will tell what will happen.
"I've been asked a lot [in the media] over the past couple of months about the role, and if I would take it on," Morgan said.
"My answer has simply been that the timing for everything in my life at the moment is not right. Yes, I want to coach down the line. But I have a young family, and I spend a lot more time at home and watching cricket doing this [commentary]. I'm absolutely loving what I'm doing,"he added.

England have enjoyed stellar success in the Test format in the last two years where they have beaten all nations in the Test series except India and Australia. However, things have changed in the limited-overs format in the last couple of years after winning the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. England under Jos Buttler were favourites to win the ODI World Cup in India in 2023 but faced a humiliating exit in the league stage which started the downfall.
The team was also lucky to get into the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup where they faced a humiliating defeat to India before exiting. Current head coach Matthew Mott and Buttler are both under review according to reports with big changes expected in the coming days. The long-term plan of the ECB remains to prioritise the ODI World Cup in 2027 rather than the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
