BAN vs PAK, 1st Test: Bangladesh register maiden Test victory over Pakistan with 10-wicket win in Rawalpindi

Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test at Rawalpindi on Sunday (Aug 25) to take 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Chasing a sub-standard target of 30 runs, Bangladesh went through the runs in just six and a half overs after bowling Pakistan out for 146 in the second innings. This is also Bangladesh's first Test win over Pakistan.

The day started with Pakistan 94 runs behind Bangladesh's first innings lead with skipper Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique on the crease. The visitors turned the screws quickly on a fifth day pitch, taking all five wickets in the first session.

It all went downhill from there on for the home team as they got all out for 146, leaving Bangladesh only little to do to win the match and so they did.

This is first time Pakistan have lost by 10 wickets at home. Their decision to declare in the first innings on 448/6 would surely haunt them, especially with Rizwan at 171 not out.

It was, however, their decision to play an all-pace attack - a rarity in the sub-continent which is going to be criticised more. Pakistan assistant coach Azar Mahmud although blames the pitch for not playing as they expected.

Skipper Masood did acknowledge the all-pace attack factor but sided with Mahmud and said: "I mean, never to make it an excuse, but, uh, It didn't play the way we thought it would."

"Secondly, I thought with three fast bowlers. Uh, you were going to be pushing them to the limit and that would mean that the spinner would also have to operate at around 25 30 overs a day. So that was something we were trying to avoid," he added.

Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 191 in the first innings and helped the team take the lead, was named Player of the Match.
