'All I can do is listen to them': Naseem Shah opens up on criticism faced after T20 World Cup loss to India

Pakistan speedster Naseem Shah has opened up on his team’s defeat to India at the T20 World Cup in June as he was left speechless. Speaking on Tuesday (Aug 20) ahead of Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh, Naseem opened up on the defeat to India where his side was in the driving seat until a late collapse cost them the two points and ultimately a place in the Super 8. After the defeat, the entire Pakistan squad along with Naseem were questioned by the fans for their poor mentality.

"Though I was not being targeted by the fans or the media, one cannot be satisfied and say I did my bit after your team loses. I am a person who wants to win. I get disappointed even when I lose while playing at home or in my street. I play to win and the World Cup exit pained me a lot," the tearaway fast bowler said Cricbuzz in an interview.

"People come up to me in restaurants and ask me why we lost. Even my relatives have asked about it. I understand their sentiments are driven by social media and, as a player, all I can do is listen to them," he further added.

Pakistan needed six runs per over at one stage and looked on course for their second World Cup win over India in New York on June 9. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya led the bowling charge and got India home to win the match. Pakistan would later get knocked out of the tournament after they finished third in the group stage.

The Men in Green will now look to stamp their authority over Bangladesh as they take on a two-match Test series which starts on Wednesday (Aug 21). The series will be of huge importance as vital points in the World Test Championship (WTC) will be up for grabs for both sides.
