1st Test: Moeen's hat-trick destroys South Africa

England spinner Moeen Ali took a hat-trick as England beat South Africa by a massive 239 runs in the third Test at the Oval to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Set a daunting target of 492 runs, South Africa managed just 252 runs despite Elgar's defiant 132 as Toby Roland-Jones and Moeen Ali tore into the South African batting line-up taking seven wickets between them.

The South African's began the fifth day on 117/4 on a confident note with Elgar and Bavuma sharing a fifth-wicket partnership of 108 but Roland-Jones removed Bavuma out lbw for 32 and in the next ball he struck again taking the wicket of Philander for a duck reducing the visitors to 160/6.

It was all the way downhill from there as Moeen Ali hit the South Africans hard with a hat-trick with the visitors losing the last 3 wickets with the score on 252.

Moeen Ali's hat-trick victims included Elgar(132) Rabada(0) and Morkel(0) as the South Africans gave up without a fight on the final day.
