Shein eyes London float amid regulatory scrutiny

Shein, the online fashion giant, is preparing to file a prospectus with Britain's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) ahead of a possible initial public offering (IPO) in London, Sky News reported Sunday. Shein might be valued at over 50 billion pounds ($63.70 billion) following the transaction.

Confidential filing imminent

According to sources cited by Sky News, the confidential filing might occur as soon as next week. This comes after Shein met with London-based financial and legal consultants earlier this year to discuss the idea of listing on the London Stock Exchange.

Shift from New York to London

Shein, which raised $66 billion in funding last year, has advanced its plans for a London listing after facing regulatory challenges and opposition from US politicians to a potential New York IPO. The decision comes as the corporation seeks a more favourable regulatory climate in the United Kingdom.

Regulatory scrutiny and governance improvements

Despite the strategic shift to London, Shein is under examination from prominent British MPs who are concerned about the company's fitness for a listing on the London Stock Exchange. Shein responded by stating that it is committed to upgrading its governance and compliance policies to resolve these concerns.

As Shein prepares for its possible London debut, the fashion company is under pressure to achieve the high standards demanded by British regulators and lawmakers. The outcome of Shein's efforts to improve its compliance controls will be critical in deciding the viability of its UK IPO plans.
