Is Lewis Hamilton shifting gears to MotoGP ownership?

Lewis Hamilton has hinted 'anything's possible' over rumours that link the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion and keen motorcycle rider with the purchase of Italy's Gresini MotoGP team.

Speculation that he could be close to moving to MotoGP has spiked after reports Formula One and MotoGP are set to come under common ownership, as US-based Liberty Media, which owns the commercial rights to F1, announced a takeover of MotoGP's parent company, Dorna, last April.

Reports in Italian and British media indicate that Hamilton is mulling an investment in the sport. He took part in a sponsor-organized swap of machines with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi in 2019.

"I've always loved MotoGP. I'm interested in the potential growth of the sport, but I haven't looked that far into it just yet," Hamilton said at the British Grand Prix when asked specifically if he was interested in buying Gresini.

"But anything's possible. I'm definitely interested in, as I said before, about equity and already with the (Denver) Broncos, it was already a first step in team ownership.

"And so, yeah, I think over the next five to 10 years, there'll be hopefully more. We'll see where."

In August 2022, Hamilton further immersed himself in sports teams ownership, with the National Football League's Denver Broncos.

Also in 2022 he was involved in a failed bid for Premier League side Chelsea.

Hamilton's possible investment in Gresini MotoGP would become the tip of his bigger agenda of sports representation and diversity. Racing world observers now eagerly await developments on this count, as speculation runs rife about whether or not Hamilton will take up ownership of the MotoGP team.
