Sensex opens at fresh high; Nifty breaches 11,200-mark for first time

The bull rally in the Indian stock exchange continued as Sensex opens at fresh record high of 37,272.86 today after closing at a record high of 36,984.64 on Thursday.

On Friday morning, the Nifty breached the 11,200-mark for the first time. The markets have been on a high for the past four consecutive days.

At close on Thursday, bank shares gained as more state-run lenders lined up to enrol for a scheme for faster bad-loan resolution.

State Bank of India closed more than 5 per cent higher. Canara Bank was up 7.74 per cent, Indian Bank stocks zoomed 7.01 per cent, Allahabad Bank was up 3.74 per cent, Andhra Bank went up 2.82 per cent and Indian Overseas Bank also went up 2.26 per cent.

The 30-share BSE Sensex surpassed the 37,000-mark for the first time in history on Thursday to touch a high of 37,061.62 in intra-day. It finally closed the day 126.41 points higher at 36,984.64.
