The rupee rose to its highest level in the last one week after US president criticised US Federal Reserve for hiking interest rates saying he was "not thrilled".

Extending its rising streak on Tuesday, the rupee appreciated 24 paise against the US dollar to 69.58 in early trade today.

The rupee's rise was highest since August 13th. On Monday, the rupee made a strong comeback from its lifetime low and ended with a gain of 33 paise at 69.82 on heavy dollar unwinding and a robust rally in domestic equities.

The benchmark BSE Sensex also rose on Tuesday at 124.21 points, or 0.32 per cent to hit its all-time high of 38,402.96.

The NSE Nifty too scaled a new peak of 11,581.75 in early trade.
