Toyota Alabama expands with USD 282 million investment

Toyota Motor Corporation is strengthening its presence in the United States with a significant expansion of its Huntsville, Alabama manufacturing facility. The company has announced a USD 282 million investment to enhance the plant's production capabilities, adding new lines for drivetrain products. This move will create more than 350 new, high-quality jobs, reinforcing Toyota's commitment to reinvesting profits in its U.S. operations and fostering long-term stability for its workforce.

The Huntsville plant, already a powerhouse in engine production, has become a crucial component of Toyota's North American manufacturing footprint. With this latest investment, the total capital injected into Toyota Alabama will exceed USD 1.7 billion, underscoring the company's confidence in the region's skilled workforce and business-friendly environment.

Jason Puckett, President of Toyota Alabama, expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, stating, "Thanks to our Alabama team members' daily commitment to quality and continuous improvement, we know they can rise to the challenge of all-new production lines. The new lines will further increase the plant's flexibility and reaffirm Toyota's commitment to our team and community."

Currently, Toyota Alabama is the company's largest engine producer in North America, employing over 2,000 dedicated team members who assembled more than 770,000 engines in 2023 alone. The plant supplies engines to seven Toyota vehicle plants across the continent, powering popular models such as the Corolla, Corolla Cross, Highlander, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, and Tundra.

Marcus Calhoun, a Toyota Alabama team leader, shared his excitement about the expansion, saying, "I've been a part of building high-quality Toyota engines for eight years, and I'm excited for the opportunity to bring new products to our plant. Toyota was my first job in manufacturing, and now I lead my own team. I'm ready to help both current and future team members learn the skills they'll need for this project."

Governor Kay Ivey of Alabama welcomed Toyota's investment, stating, "Toyota has been a bedrock company within Alabama's growing auto industry for over two decades, launching multiple expansions that have increased the Huntsville facility's production capabilities and its superb workforce. This new investment project will build on the great legacy of Toyota's Alabama engine plant and create even more new opportunities for the area's citizens."
