Skoda Kodiaq SUV online bookings paused (Update)

The Skoda Kodiaq has been a popular SUV in its segment thanks to its sheer quality, powerful yet frugal powertrain and 7-seater configuration. Unlike the other models that are locally produced, the Kodiaq comes to the Indian market via the CBU route, which also explains its steep price tag. Another model that comes as a completely built unit is the Skoda Superb, which was recently relaunched at an eye watering price of INR 54 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi.

In the D-segment SUV space, the Kodiaq has been a likeable SUV for the business clientele as well as youthful buyers. Its 2.0L turbo petrol engine offers class leading power and torque, thereby making it a strong contender against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian and MG Gloster, with the latter two being only available with diesel engines.

Globally, Skoda has already launched the 2nd-generation Kodiaq, which boasts a host of improvements over the outgoing model. The new Skoda Kodiaq is 60mm longer than the outgoing model, lending more interior space for its passengers. Skoda has also added active cooling shutters and redesigned front and rear bumpers, which help in achieving a drag coefficient of 0.282. The design of the Kodiaq looks more rugged than before, thanks to the squared-off wheel arches, prominent body cladding, and angular headlights and tail lights. The radiator grille of the Kodiaq now features a horizontal LED strip while the TOP LED Matrix lights are said to offer 15% more light output than the outgoing Kodiaq.

The 2nd-gen Kodiaq SUV offers a wide range of powertrains, including a plug-in-hybrid option. The plug-in-hybrid Kodiaq makes use of a 1.5L TSI engine that comes coupled with a 25.7kWh battery pack and a pair of electric motors. The combined system output stands at 204hp and it can drive for up to 100 km on sole battery power. Other powertrain options include 150hp 1.5L TSI, 204hp 2.0L TSI AWD and 2.0L TDI diesel in 150hp and 193hp power tunes.

Since Skoda has stopped accepting bookings for the Kodiaq, the launch of the 2nd-gen Kodiaq seems right around the corner. Alongside the new Kodiaq, Skoda is also readying the new sub-compact SUV that is set to go against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
