NTSB launches investigation into fatal Florida SUV crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced it will investigate a tragic accident in Belle Glade, Florida, where an SUV veered into a canal late Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people, including six children.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the crash claimed the lives of four individuals at the scene, with an additional five succumbing to their injuries after being transported to a local hospital. A tenth person, who was also in the vehicle, remains hospitalised. The sheriff's office is currently investigating the incident but has not provided further details.

ABC News, citing the sheriff's report, revealed that the SUV crashed into the canal after missing a left turn for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle struck a guardrail and ended up upside down in the water, which was reportedly high enough to reach the wheels of the submerged SUV.

Among the deceased were six children, ages ranging from 1 to 14, along with three women, including the 56-year-old driver. The only survivor of the crash is a 26-year-old male passenger. The NTSB’s investigation will focus on determining the factors that led to the accident and examining the vehicle's condition and any potential road or safety issues.

The investigation by the NTSB is expected to provide further insights into the circumstances surrounding the crash, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
