Defender OCTA

Jaguar Land Rover has announced the launch of its latest model, the Defender OCTA, at INR 2.95 cr promising unprecedented levels of performance, luxury, and off-road capability.

The new Defender OCTA is set to redefine what a luxury off-road vehicle can achieve. Powered by a 4.4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine, this model is the most extreme and powerful Defender ever. It boasts 467 kW and up to 750 Nm of torque, enabling a remarkable 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.0 seconds. The vehicle’s dynamic capabilities are enhanced by heavily revised chassis components and innovative 6D Dynamics suspension technology, ensuring both on-road and off-road prowess.

Mark Cameron, Managing Director of Defender, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “With the new Defender OCTA, we have unlocked the full potential of Defender. It epitomises the breadth of capability and showcases the best of our engineering talents. Its powerful V8 engine, groundbreaking suspension technology, and exquisite finishes make it incredibly tough and inherently desirable.”

Rugged exterior design

The Defender OCTA’s exterior is designed to be bolder and tougher than ever. The ride height is raised, the stance is widened, and the wheel arches are extended, providing an impressive presence. Redesigned bumpers improve approach and departure angles, while tough underbody protection boosts confidence in exploring rough terrains. The vehicle can wade through up to one metre of water, making it the most capable production Defender.

The OCTA’s name is inspired by the diamond, the toughest and most desirable mineral on earth, and its octahedral shape. This shape also influenced the new signature graphic, denoting the OCTA as the flagship Defender—strong, resilient, and striking. Each Defender OCTA features a gloss black diamond within a machined and sandblasted titanium disc on its Signature Graphic panel.

Unparalleled off-road and on-road capabilities

The Defender OCTA’s dynamic capabilities surpass any previous Defender model, thanks to the introduction of 6D Dynamics suspension technology. This system, combined with extensive hardware and geometry changes, ensures maximum wheel articulation off-road and reduced roll-on-road. The vehicle sits 28 mm higher and has a stance widened by 68 mm for superior ground clearance and stability. Revised suspension components, including longer and tougher wishbones and unique active dampers, enhance its performance further.

Jamal Hameedi, Director of SVO at Jaguar Land Rover, stated, “Our high-performance experts have achieved the impossible with the Defender OCTA. They have re-engineered components throughout the vehicle to ensure it is the perfect companion for epic adventures anywhere on the planet.”

Luxurious and immersive interior

Inside, the Defender OCTA sets a new standard for luxury. The model offers two highly durable UltrafabricsTM PU options, which are 30 per cent lighter than traditional leather. The Edition One features a duo-tone Khaki and Ebony finish with a knit textile and seamless finish. Alternatively, a new Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather with KvadratTM textile trim in Ebony is available. The front row features all-new Performance Seats with more supportive bolsters and integrated headrests.

The Defender OCTA also introduces immersive Body and Soul Seat audio technology, developed in collaboration with SUBPAC and Coventry University. This allows occupants to feel, as well as hear, the music, with six wellness programmes available to enhance relaxation or cognitive responses.

Advanced technology and features

The Defender OCTA is equipped with an advanced network of hydraulically interlinked continuously variable semi-active dampers, virtually eliminating pitch and body roll on-road while enhancing off-road capabilities. The vehicle features 83.82 cm (33-inch) diameter tyres, the largest ever fitted to a production Defender, and extended wheel arches. Unique grille designs allow greater under-bonnet airflow, and a new rear bumper incorporates a four-exit active exhaust system.

The vehicle’s colour palette includes exclusive new premium metallic finishes like Petra Copper and Faroe Green, alongside Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey. All models feature a contrast roof and tailgate in gloss Narvik Black. Clients can further personalise their vehicle with optional Matte Protective Film for added body protection.

Availability and pricing

The new Defender OCTA will be available at an indicative price of INR 2.65 cr (ex-showroom) in India. The Defender OCTA Edition One, available through the first year of production, will be priced at INR 2.85 cr (ex-showroom). The vehicle will make its public debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed from 11–14 July.

The Defender OCTA combines luxury, performance, and rugged capability, making it an ideal choice for adventurers seeking both comfort and durability. With its advanced technology, refined interiors, and robust design, the Defender OCTA is set to become a new benchmark in the luxury off-road segment.
