Tesla CEO Elon Musk is working on another strategic development being referred to as 'Master Plan Part 4'. The previous ‘master plans’ have been strategic guides for the company, defining its path to success. All in all, it can be stated that Tesla has already met most of the goals that were set in the first two master plans of the company.
In August 2006, Musk introduced his plan for the first time in the blog post called “The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me).” This plan listed out certain goals that the company aimed to achieve then, like building a sports car, employing the money generated from step 1 in building an affordable car. Other goals included employing the proceeds from step 2 to construct yet a cheaper automobile and expanding zero-emission electric power generation alternatives at the same time.

Despite some missteps along the way, Tesla successfully executed these steps with the Roadster, Model S, and later the Model 3. In 2016, Musk came with with the ‘Tesla Master Plan Part 2’ during the Model 3 launch and the acquisition of SolarCity, which finalised the plan. Part 2 built upon the Tesla Energy division by discussing the combination of energy storage with renewable generation and discussing new products such as the solar roof.
The plan also emphasised advancements in self-driving technology, positioning it as a cornerstone for Tesla's future. Musk summarised Part 2 with goals that included creating solar roofs with integrated battery storage, expanding the electric vehicle lineup across all major segments, achieving superior self-driving capabilities through fleet learning, and enabling vehicles to generate income autonomously.
Among the vehicles mentioned in Part 2 were the Cybertruck, Model Y compact SUV, and the Tesla Semi, all of which have been unveiled and are in various stages of production. The vision for "high passenger-density urban transport" remains outstanding.

In 2019, Musk shared ’Master Plan Part 3’ in the form of a presentation and white paper, which was different from the previous documents that focused on products. But it described a plan for a transition of economies worldwide for electric cars and clean energy. Now, Musk has claimed that he is working on ‘Tesla Master Plan 4’, which he said is ‘epic’ and is ongoing.
