BluSmart, a prominent player in the electric vehicle ride-hailing industry, has successfully secured a significant investment of INR 200 crore (approximately USD 24 million) in its latest funding round. This infusion of capital comes from a diverse group of investors, including both new and existing backers, marking the completion of the company's pre-Series B funding round.

Among the notable new investors is ResponsAbility, a Swiss impact investment firm known for its focus on sustainable development and socially responsible investments. This participation underscores the growing interest in eco-friendly transportation solutions among international investors.

Adding star power to the investor roster is the family office of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team. Dhoni's involvement not only brings financial support but also lends considerable prestige and visibility to BluSmart's endeavours in the electric mobility sector.

Another significant addition to the investor list is Sumant Sinha, the Chairman of ReNew Power, one of India's leading renewable energy companies. Sinha's participation aligns with the synergies between renewable energy and electric mobility, potentially opening doors for future collaborations and strategic partnerships.

The funding round also saw continued support from BluSmart's existing investors, demonstrating their ongoing confidence in the company's vision and growth trajectory. Moreover, the company's founders - Punit Goyal, Anmol Singh Jaggi, and Puneet Singh Jaggi - have reinforced their commitment by participating in this round, further aligning their interests with the company's future success.

BluSmart has earmarked the newly acquired funds for strategic expansion and infrastructure development. The company plans to utilise this capital to broaden its operational footprint and establish robust EV charging infrastructure in India's major metropolitan areas. This move is crucial for addressing one of the key challenges in EV adoption - the availability of convenient and reliable charging facilities.

The latest funding round is part of a larger financial milestone for BluSmart. Since December 2023, the company has raised a total of USD 85 million (approximately Rs 710 crore) in equity funding. This substantial sum reflects the strong investor confidence in BluSmart's business model and its potential to revolutionise urban transportation in India.

BluSmart's growth trajectory since its inception in 2019 has been remarkable. The company has expanded its EV fleet from a modest 70 vehicles to an impressive 7,500, operating across the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi and Bangalore. This rapid scaling demonstrates the increasing demand for eco-friendly transportation options in India's urban centres.

In addition to its ride-hailing services, BluSmart has made significant strides in developing EV charging infrastructure. The company currently operates 50 EV charging hubs that are accessible to the public, contributing to the overall growth of the EV ecosystem in India.

BluSmart's financial performance has been equally impressive. The company reports crossing the INR 550 crore mark in annual recurring revenue, a testament to the growing adoption of its services and the viability of its business model in the competitive ride-hailing market.

As BluSmart continues to expand its operations and enhance its infrastructure, it is poised to play a pivotal role in India's transition towards sustainable urban mobility. The company's success not only contributes to reducing carbon emissions but also sets a precedent for the viability of large-scale electric vehicle operations in emerging markets.
