BSE Sensex opened over 37,400 points up at a new record high on Monday morning with the Nifty reaching 11,300 for the first time.

The Sensex was up 92.84 points in early trade at 37429.69, a gain of 0.25 per cent. The NSE Nifty was at11,304.15, up by 26.60 points.

The charge was led by the Banks with Bank of Baroda surging ahead and ICICI stocks going up 3 per cent on strong June quarter.

However, the Indian Rupee opened lower at 68.70 against the dollar, down 5 paisa.

On Friday, the Sensex had breached the 37,000 mark for the first time to close at a historic high of 37,336.85, up 352.21 points, or 0.0.95 per cent. It had earlier closed at 36,984.64 on Thursday.

The NSE Nifty also showed a similar trend, closing at a record 11,278.35, a gain of 111.05 points which was 0.99 per cent up. The Nifty bettered the Thursday's mark when it closed at 11,167.30.

For the week, the NSE index had gained 2.44 per cent, its biggest gain since the week ending March 17, 2017.

Reliance Industries Ltd had closed 1.73 percent higher on Friday while ICICI Bank ended 2.64 per cent firmer ahead of quarterly results later in the day. Heavyweight ITC was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, surging 5.24 per cent to Rs 302.20
