Sensex gains 100 points, Nifty 25 points short of 11,000

Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 traded little changed on Wednesday as trade tensions escalated after US plans additional tariffs on Chinese goods.

Among the individual stocks, TCS climbed as much as 2.73 per cent on BSE after the firm reported better-than-expected results for June quarter. At 09:33 am, the stock was trading at Rs 1,917.25 apiece on BSE, up 2 per cent.

IT stocks advanced the most. At 09:37 am, the Nifty IT pack was trading 1.12 per cent higher at 14,382.50, with 8 out of 10 constituents trading in the green.

On the global front, US tariffs on an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese goods sent Asian stocks tumbling on Wednesday, with China's markets leading the declines, as trade tensions between the world's two biggest economies continued to deteriorate, Reuters reported.
