
Petrol and diesel prices in the country continued to rise on Thursday. Petrol and diesel touched Rs 79.51 and Rs 71.55 respectively for a litre in Delhi today.
While Mumbai saw petrol prices inching towards Rs 87-mark at Rs 86.91 per litre, diesel in the country's economic capital touched Rs 75.96 per litre today.
Fuel prices have been on the rise ever since the rupee hit an all-time low of 71 against the US dollar on August 16.
Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely cited "global reasons" for tumbling rupee against the dollar and for mounting fuel prices. He stated that the world's fastest-growing economy should not worry and panic over sinking rupee.
Jaitley said there were no domestic reasons attributable to the fall in rupee. He added that dollar had strengthened against almost every currency.
"The Rupee has either consistently strengthened or remained in a rage, not weakened. Most of the other currencies of the world, compared to what it was 4-5 years ago, Rupee is better off,’ Jaitley told media in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The unabated fall in the national currency came to a halt on Thursdaywhen therupeerecovered marginally by 9 paise to 71.66 against the US dollar.
