The American currency witnessed a slight dip today against some currencies.

Indian markets opened in negative on Friday with Sensex tumbling 160.22 points or 0.42 per cent at 38082.59. Nifty sank 48.50 points or 0.42 per cent at 11488.40.

The benchmark Sensex fell 165.72 points, or 0.43 per cent, to 38,077.09 in early trade on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the national currency on Friday opened on a positive note and was trading marginally higher by 4 paise at 71.95 against the US dollar.

The US dollar witnessed a slight dip against some currencies including yen in anticipation ofUS President Donald Trump raking trade issues with Japan.

The dollar trend overseas supported the rupee but losses in domestic equities kept investors mood dampened, capping the domestic currency's gains.

The rupee on Thursday dipped to a new record low of 72.11 against the American currency in intra-day trade before closing at 71.99.
