The rupee had strengthened 5.96 per cent against the US dollar in 2017 but has been on a downtrend this year.

The Indian rupee fell to an all-time low of 69.00 against the US dollar after closing at a low of 68.61 on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the rupee had plunged by 37 paise or 0.54 per cent to settle at a 19-month low of 68.61 against the US dollar over rise in crude oil prices, widening current account deficit and a spike in inflation.

The rupee had strengthened 5.96 per cent against the US dollar in 2017 but has been on a downtrend this year.

It has now gone down over 8 per cent this year making it the worst currency in Asia this year.

It had touched a historic low of 68.86 on November 24, 2016 and a lifetime closing low of 68.80 in August 28, 2013.
