Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday cited 'global reasons' for tumbling rupee against the dollar and for mounting fuel prices.

Fuel prices in the country continued to rise on Friday. Petrol and diesel touched Rs 79.99 and Rs 72.07 respectively for a litre in Delhi today.

Mumbai saw petrol prices crossing Rs 87-mark at Rs 87.39 per litre, diesel in the country's economic capital touched Rs 76.51 per litre today.

Fuel prices have been on the rise ever since the rupee hit an all-time low of 71 against the US dollar on August 16.

Petrol and diesel prices in the national capital were recorded at Rs 79.51 and Rs 71.55 respectively for a litre on Thursday.

For Mumbai, the prices inched towards Rs 87-mark at Rs 86.91 per litre for petrol, while diesel was sold for Rs 75.96 per litre yesterday.
