Airline fleet may double to 1,100 by 2027 in India: Report

An aircraft leasing company has predicted India's passenger jet fleet to double by the year 2027. According to Avolon, the total value of aircraft to be delivered over next decade in the country is estimated to be $60 billion. India's jet fleet is expected to expand to almost, 1,100 by 2027.

The airline industry in India operates with nearly 600 passenger aircraft. The company also expects a surge in domestic passenger demand at an average annual rate of 9.6 per cent over next 10 years. International passengers for India will go up at the rate of 8.3 per cent.

Indian airlines carried around 22.8 million international passengers in the year 2017, an increase of 14 per cent as compared to the year 2016. 

Annual domestic passenger growth has averaged 15 per cent since 2012 in India.
