Russian Presidents In Power Since Collapse of Soviet Union (1991 - 2023)

1. Boris Yeltsin

Yeltsin became the President of Russia on July 10, 1991. After remaining at the position for 8 years and 174 days he resigned from office on December 31, 1999.

2. Vladimir Putin

Vladimir Putin was the acting president of Russia after Yeltsin's early resignation. He held the presidential seat from December 31, 1999 to May 7, 2000.   

3. Vladimir Putin

Putin won the 2000 and 2004 Russian presidential elections in landslide victories with 53.0% and 71.3% of vote, respectively. He was in office from May 7, 2000, to May 7, 2008, for a total of 8 years and 128 days.

4. Dmitry Medvedev

Medvedev won the 2008 Russian Presidential elections for a four-year term. He had the backing of the then-incumbent president Vladimir Putin and five other political parties. He remained in the position from May 7, 2008 till May 7, 2012.

5. Vladimir Putin

The 2012 presidential polls was the first election post-2008 constitutional amendments where an elected president would serve a 6-year term instead of 4 years. Putin won the 2012 and 2018 elections with 63.6% and 77% of vote, respectively. The next elections are due to be held on March 15, 2024.
