Abraham Lincoln, the 16th US President, was assassinated on April 15, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth. Booth, a well-known actor, shot Lincoln in the head while he attended a play at Ford’s Theatre. Lincoln succumbed to his injuries the next day, marking the first presidential assassination in US history.
James A. Garfield, the 20th US President, was shot on July 2, 1881, by Charles Guiteau at a train station in Washington, DC Garfield battled his injuries for several weeks before dying on September 19, 1881.
William McKinley, the 25th US President, was assassinated on September 6, 1901, by Leon F. Czolgosz during a public event in Buffalo, New York. McKinley died from gangrene caused by his wounds on September 14, 1901.
John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, remains one of the most infamous in history. Kennedy was shot by a sniper, allegedly Lee Harvey Oswald, while riding in a motorcade in Dallas. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
