Guiteau, a livid office seeker, stalked Garfield for days before waiting for the president in the Baltimore and Potomac railway station in Washington, D.C. President Garfield was shot twice by Guiteau; the first shot hit his arm while the second shot him in the back.

William McKinley- 1901

When President McKinley attempted a handshake at the Pan-American Exhibition in Buffalo, New York, Czolgosz approached and shot him twice in the chest. He moved forward again, intending to fire a third shot, but a bodyguard wrestled him to the ground.

John F. Kennedy- 1963

Oswald fired one bullet at Kennedy from a window in the Texas School Book Depository Building while the president rode in a convertible through downtown Dallas at the time.

Attempts were also made at the lives of US President Andrew Jackson in 1835 and Theodore Roosevelt in 1912. However, while the shooter missed his target in the former case, Roosevelt did recover from the wound. The bullet remained in Roosevelt’s body until his death in 1919.
