In Ayurveda, it is often recommended to avoid eating curd (yoghurt) at night for several reasons, especially if it's not balanced with the right spices or accompaniments.
Curd is thought to aggravate Kapha dosha, which can lead to increased mucus production. This may cause respiratory issues, congestion, or worsen colds and coughs.
Curd is considered heavy and can be harder to digest at night when your metabolism slows down. This may lead to indigestion, bloating, or discomfort.
Consuming curd at night may disturb digestion and cause acidity or heartburn, particularly in those prone to acid reflux.
Curd has a natural cooling effect on the body, which may imbalance the body’s internal temperature, especially in cooler weather, potentially leading to colds or other respiratory issues.
If you do choose to consume curd at night, it is sometimes suggested to mix it with a pinch of black pepper or cumin to aid digestion.
