Every year on December 5, the world observes World Soil Day to raise awareness about the importance of soil to the sustenance of life on Earth.
This year's theme is "Soil and Water: A Source of Life". The main objective of this theme is to make people aware of the soil, how to maintain the ecosystem, and to spread awareness about the usefulness and importance of soil.
In June 2013, the FAO Conference endorsed World Soil Day and later approached the 68th United National General Assembly and requested for its official adoption. The first official World Soil Day was declared on December 5, 2014, by the UN General Assembly towards the end of 2013.
The significance of this day lies in informing people about the importance of soil in maintaining a healthy ecosystem by addressing soil-related problems such as pollution, erosion, and degradation
- World Soil Day aims to highlight these issues and advocate for sustainable soil management practices, ensuring the well-being of current and future generations.
