World Snake Day is observed on July 16 worldwide as a reminder of the diverse world of snakes. Some of these incredible creatures have strong venom that is potentially fatal to humans. Here are five of the deadliest venomous snakes you should be aware of:

 

Inland Taipan (Fierce Snake)

Known for having the most toxic venom of any snake, a single bite can kill multiple humans within an hour if left untreated.

King Cobra

 King Cobra can inject enough neurotoxins through its bite to kill an elephant, and if left untreated, it can kill a human in as little as 15 minutes

Black Mamba

The Black Mamba, which is renowned for its rapidity and aggression, has venom that can kill in as little as 20 minutes by targeting the neurological system and causing respiratory failure.

Coastal Taipei

Found in Australia, this snake delivers a powerful venom that can cause paralysis and internal bleeding, often leading to death within 30 minutes.

Russell's Viper

Responsible for the most snakebite deaths in Asia, its venom causes severe pain, swelling and a range of systemic effects, often leading to fatal kidney failure.
