World Blood Donor Day 2024: How to Check Eligibility

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated annually on June 14. It is a day dedicated to blood donors, thanking them for their meaningful contribution to saving lives.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day. World Health Organization (WHO), along with other communities, celebrates this day by extending gratitude towards blood donors.

The theme for this year is, "20 Years of celebrating giving: thank you, blood donors!"

Here are a few points that can help determine whether you are eligible to donate blood or not:

Any healthy adult is eligible to donate blood. Men can donate once every three months while women can donate once in four months.

The weight of the blood donor should not be less than 45 Kg.

Haemoglobin levels should not be less than 12.5 gms per deciliter.

The blood pressure of the donor must lie in the normal range (120/80 mm Hg).

The preferred age for blood donors is 18-65 years.
