Trilinga Desam

Telangana means Trilinga Desam (the land of three). It earned the name due to the three ancient Shiva Temples at Kaleshwaram, Srisailam, and Draksharamam in Telangana.

Telangana was ruled by prominent dynasties, from the Mauryans to the Golconda Sultanate. During British rule, it was under the Nizams who ruled the region for almost two centuries until independence.

Vijaydashmi is a major festival in Telangana. It also has iconic regional festivals, like Bathukamma and Bonalu.

State Symbols

Palapitta (Indian Roller or Blue Jay) is the state bird of Telangana. Jinka, Jammi Chettu, and Tangedu are the state animal, tree, and flower, respectively.
