Strange: These 5 Animals Don't Have Red Blood

The red colour in our blood comes from haemoglobin, a protein in the red blood cells that distribute oxygen to the entire body. However, not all creatures have red blood. Here are five animals that don't have red blood:

1. Brachiopods

These animals live in the ocean. These organisms use hemerythrin to transport the blood, which makes deoxygenated blood pale yellow, and oxygenated blood has hues of violet and pink.

2. Horseshoe Crabs

These organisms closely resemble spiders. Their blood is blue due to the pigment hemocyanin.

3. Octopus

The famous eight-legged creature does not have red blood like humans. Octopuses have blue blood due to the presence of hemocyanin. Hemocyanin contains copper, which makes oxygenated blood appear blue.

4. Crocodile Icefish

These organisms live in the ocean waters of Antarctica. These organisms have colourless blood, which has surprised quite a few researchers.

5. New Guinea's Green-Blooded Skins

These lizards have lime-green blood, which makes them unique. The lime-green blood makes their muscles, bones and tongue shades of green. The reason for the green colour is the pigment biliverdin.
